3_stars_mma_ranking_allthebestfightsReview: 2013-09-21, close fight thanks to a great performance and some good single shots by both Jon Jones and Gustafsson but without ground game it is very difficult to give more than three stars. However the fight won UFC Fight of the Night honors and it is really possible to see a rematch since Jones and Gustafsson proved they are the two best light heavyweight fighters in the world! Jon ‘Bones’ Jones (18-1-0, 83% finishing rate) entered as the No.1 light heavyweight in the world while Alexander Gustafsson (15-1-0, 80% finishing rate) entered as the No.6. Jon Jones vs Gustafsson, main event of UFC 165, is valid for the UFC light heavyweight title (Jones’ sixth defense); they also faced each other a second time on December 29, 2018 (Jon Jones vs Alexander Gustafsson 2). 1. one of the best fights ever. no one should complain about Jones again. he shouldn’t go to Heavy when he has a game rival at Light Heavy. his length had nothing to do with the wins he’s gotten after this amount of time. fighters have to adjust to him

      • i thought it should of been a split decision either way. the 2nd round was a toss up. the judges are just bad in mma

      • so did Frankie edgar get robbed? Just like JDS said, the champion will win the decision if the challenger didn’t do enough to win. He didn’t. Y’all can go and say well jones was in a hospital bed laying down while Gus was standing next to em. true
but in that 5th round Gus was way too tired. Especially the last 2 min. He stopped with all the movement he was doing and had to just stand in front of him. It was a great fight, and he didn’t get robbed

      • the result of the fight is scored after every round if there is no KO, after the 5round see how many rounds belong to each fighter and the one that gets at least 3rounds will win….thats how Jones win and its fair enough, furthermore hes the champion. For Gus to win he must win at least 3rounds convincingly or take the KO. Jones even is the one busier and aggressive all thoughout..how the heck the challenger could win?

    • two takedowns in 25 minutes is too little and we have seen the fight twice so it’s very difficult we change idea. However you can rate it 4 or 5 stars like the other users and we will add it in the Users’ mma ranking if it will get 4 stars or more.
      Thanks pic44

      • why do you think the takedowns matter that much? the cuts in the fight changing everything for both guys, the chins they both have, the speed of Gus all to me make it fight of the year. thx

        • It’s not the number of takedowns but how long they fight on the ground, because this is Mma, so probably a perfect mma fight should have 50% grappling and 50% striking exchanges. If they don’t go to the canvas the bout is like a muay thai fight and if you have to rate this match as a kickboxing match it is not one of the best. However, we are not so strict and sometimes also a standing mma fight could get 4 or 5 stars, as for example Wanderlei Silva vs Brian Stann, but that one was a war!!

          • the Wanderlei Silva vs Brian Stann fight was great but i think Stann went in there with nothing to lose. both Jones and Gus only had everything to gain. all momentum changes from the cuts in round 1 and 4 all played in to make the fight 1 of the best

          • That just crap that the ideal fight should be 50/50 ground/standup. It’s the total feroicity of the fight and I don’t care where they fight, as long as they show talent and effort and skill.

      • Love this site…but three stars makes no sense…respectfully, you should rethink methodology, as one main ingredient in any rating would be the validity, and value of the fight as time passes and the demand for watching the event in repeats…I assure you this is a fight I will want to watch for years to come.

  5. This is BS! Theres no way this is just a 3 star fight! Why would you give a 3-star to a potential fight of the year match???
