Nice stoppage but against a guy who really shouldn’t have been touching Groves that much. Cox is a blown up middleweight with an erratic career against nobodies. His 24-0 record coming in tonight was misleading. Only three months ago, he went the distance with a 19-24 Georgian. Yet tonight, he still landed against Groves and drove him to the ropes until St. George could time him.
I’m leaning toward Eubank Jr. in a narrow victory in the next round of the tournament. The challenger: faster, better volume punching, better mobility, better jaw, more stamina, less ring rust. Groves will have the edge in skill, experience, size and power, but he’ll fight off the back foot and against the fast volume puncher his counters will be negated and his power smothered. Expecting a close and violent fight — can’t wait.
