Kevin Ross entered this fight with a professional kickboxing record of 41-11-0 (13 knockouts) and he is ranked as the No.11 super lightweight in the world while his opponent, Tetsuya Yamato, has an official record of 32-11-1 (22 knockouts) and he entered as the No.2 in the same weight class. Both fighters lost two consecutive fights in 2013 but then they came back to win winning three bouts: Ross lost to Matt Embree and Tetsuya Yamato (their first fight, Ross vs Yamato I), but then he took revenge on Embree and beat Chris Mauceri and Michael Thompson while Yamato was defeated by Gansuwan Sasiprapa and Sagetdao Petpayathai but then he won over Kevin Ross, Masaaki Noiri and he took revenge on Sagetdao.
