Melvin Manhoef entered this fight with a kickboxing record of 37-14-0 (27 knockouts) but he is not ranked as he hasn’t fought since April 16, 2016 when he was defeated by Alexandru Negrea (=Manhoef vs Negrea). His last victory in a kickboxing fight occurred in 2009, against Denes Racz, after this bout he has lost seven consecutive fights.
His opponent, the three times K-1 WGP champion Remy Bonjasky, has an official record of 77-19-0 (40 knockouts) and he is also not ranked as he hasn’t fought since March 8, 2014 when he beat Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic (=Cro Cop vs Bonjasky II). Before this fight he had lost three consecutive bouts: with Jamal Ben Saddik, Tyrone Spong (=Bonjasky vs Spong) and Anderson ‘Braddock’ Silva (controversial decision, Bonjasky vs Silva II). In their previous three fights Bonjasky had always beat Manhoef (in 2002, 2008 and 2009); this fourth bout is the eighth-final of the World Fighting League tournament – WFL Final 16.
