For Manny Pacquiao was the second fight in the featherweight division, he had won the first one against Serikzhan Yeshmagambetov (2003-03-15), while Barrera was fighting in this category since 2001 when he defeated Naseem Hamed. Manny Pacquiao vs Marco Antonio Barrera 1 was not valid for any world title but it was certainly one of the greatest boxing fights ever (instead their second fight, in 2007, was much less exciting). Saturday, March 19, backs the Ultimate Fighting Championship (128) with the main event Mauricio “Shogun” Rua vs Jon Jones. Both are among the top 10 mma fighters in the Light Heavyweight division, Rua hasn’t fought for almost a year (UFC 113), while Jones has fought just a month and a half ago, defeating Ryan Bader. The number one of the ranking in the super middleweight division Lucian Bute will fight, Saturday, March 19, against Brian Magee. We imagine a win not too hard for Bute, Rumanian undefeated boxer who will defend his IBF super middleweight title against Magee, English boxer who will fight for the first time overseas (each time that he has faced some very good boxer he lost). On the same evening, in another fight that could be spectacular, Renan St Juste will fight versus Alejandro Berrio. This night will be broadcast on Showtime Boxing: Saturday, March 19, 10PM ET / PT.
Finally, Saturday, March 19, Vitali Klitschko will fight against an opponent worthy of a world title: Odlanier Solis. Klitschko doesn’t lost since 2003, when he was defeated by Lennox Lewis and he also lost the WBC heavyweight title, which Klitschko regained against Corrie Sanders a year later. Vitali has, however, almost 40 years and he will fight against the Cuban Solis (30 years old), undefeated as a professional boxer and three time gold medalist at the World Amateur Boxing Championships (once at the Olympics). Review: 2002-11-16, Erik Morales vs Paulie Ayala was certainly one of the best boxing fights of 2002. Erik “El Terrible” Morales had just lost his first fight and the WBC featherweight title against Marco Antonio Barrera, but he chose an opponent not very easy: Paulie Ayala. For Ayala was the first fight in the featherweight division but he was one of the strongest boxers of that time, who had lost only once (against Joichiro Tatsuyoshi in Japan) but who had already won several world titles in the bantam and super bantam division. Review: Mateusz Masternak vs Ali Ismailov was not such an exciting fight but it is very interesting to see Masternak at work, a young Polish boxer (he was born in 1987) who fights in an intelligent and technical way and has also a good power (16 Ko on 22 wins).
