Review: also the second fight between Jose Luis Castillo and Diego Corrales was one of the most spectacular matches of 2005. It had passed only 5 months from the first fight and this time Jose Luis “El Terrible” Castillo takes his revenge winning by knockout at fourth round (this time there were no titles at stake). Review: the first fight between Diego Corrales and Jose Luis Castillo has deservedly won the award for the fight of the year of 2005. Corrales came from the victory against Acelino Freitas (one of the best fights of 2004) in which he won the WBO lightweight title, instead Castillo held the WBC lightweight title, which he had won in 2004 (against Juan Lazcano) and who had successfully defended twice. Diego Corrales vs Jose Luis Castillo 1 was therefore a very important fight (valid for both WBC and WBO lightweight titles) and it was really spectacular, especially the tenth round when both fighters went to the canvas… Watch the video!
Review: 7th August 2004, Acelino “Popo” Freitas defended his WBO lightweight title (won against Artur Grigorian a few months earlier) versus Diego “Chico” Corrales. Freitas was undefeated in 35 fights and was a very dangerous boxer for his speed, but Corrales was not an easy opponent, since he had suffered just two defeats against boxers like Floyd Mayweather Jr and Joel Casamayor (then Corrales won the rematch with Casamayor). For Corrales was his first world fight in the lightweight division but his pressing and heavy punches were impressive… Watch the video!
