Rene Alvarado entered this fight with a pro record of 32-8-0 (21 knockouts) and he is ranked as the No.7 super featherweight in the world (currently the #1 in this division is Miguel Berchelt). He lost to Yuriorkis Gamboa in 2017 (Gamboa vs Alvarado) but then he has won eight consecutive bouts defeating Eusebio Osejo and Andrew Cancio in 2019 (Andrew Cancio vs Rene Alvarado 2).
His opponent, Roger Gutierrez, has a boxing record of 24-3-1 (20 KOs=83%) and he entered as the No.33 in the same weight class. He lost two consecutive bouts in 2018, against Hector Tanajara and Oscar Duarte, but then he has won five fights defeating Andres Tapia in his last one.
