Tonight at the Venue at Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Ind. it’s time for the heavyweight tournament quarterfinals of Bellator Fighting Championship.
The heaviest division is currently without a champ after the unexpected retirement of the title holder Cole Konrad in September (his last defense against Eric Prindle at Bellator 70).
The main event will be the same Eric Prindle (264 pounds) vs Thiago ‘Big Monster’ Santos (265.5 pounds). It’s a rematch because they had already fought at the Season 5 heavyweight tournament final one year ago, in which “Big Monster” landed what was considered to be an accidental kick to the groin of a downed Prindle, resulting in a no-contest (Eric Prindle vs Thiago Santos first fight). The match was postponed in March at Bellator 62, but was cancelled because Santos failed to make weight and Prindle was subsequently crowned the winner of the tournament and awarded a shot at heavyweight champion Cole Konrad (and lost it, as already told).
The eight-man bracket will also see former Strikeforce talent Brett Rogers (265.8) vs Russian prospect Alexander Volkov (225.2). Additionally, former light heavyweight tournament qualifier Richard Hale (233) will face Mike Wessel (262.2), while Mark Holata (249.2) is scheduled against onetime UFC competitor Vinicius Kappke de Queiroz (247).
Another interesting fight is a bantamweight showdown between former World Extreme Cagefighting champion Chase Beebe (136.2) and onetime MFC competitor David Harris (135.2).
