Alexander Volkov highlights
Bellator 80 takes place on Friday, November 9, at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. It hosts the remaining semifinals of Season 7: Featherweight Tournament Semifinal, Wagnney Fabiano vs Rad Martinez, and Heavyweight Tournament Semifinal, Vinicius Queiroz vs Alexander Volkov (see the other two semifinals Thiago Santos vs Richard Hale and Mike Richman vs Shahbulat Shamhalaev).
The featherweight tournament quarterfinals were contested at Bellator 76, with Martinez advancing by outpointing a game Nazareno Malegarie in a hard-fought three-round match (= Martinez vs Malegarie). On the other hand Fabiano submitted hard-hitting Russian Akop Stepanyan with a first-round armbar (= Stepanyan vs Fabiano).
Alexander ‘Drago’ Volkov (17-3-0) has a streak of 8 victories and in his last match defeated Brett Rogers at Bellator 75.
Vinicius Queiroz arrives to the semifinal after a pretty good fight against Mark Holata: despite being knocked down by a punch early on, Queiroz kept his composure and won the fight via armbar just a few minutes later.
The main event is Owen Evinger vs Joe Warren former featherweight champion.
Warren (age 35), has a wrestler history. He won the 2006 Pan American and World Championship and was a favourite for the 2008 Olympics, but was given a two-year suspension after testing positive for THC (marijuana) while trying to qualify for the 2007 World Championship.
He lost his title against Pat Curran in a great and exciting match at Bellator 60 (we counted more than 40 strokes in less than 30 seconds in the first round = Pat Curran vs Joe Warren).
