3 Star RatingReview by AllTheBestFights.com: 2017-08-26, we expected something more between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Conor McGregor but unfortunately this fight will go down in history of boxing and combat sports just for numbers, pursues, money, trash talking and the show they produced before the bout rather than what we have seen inside the ring. However, leaving aside our disappointment, we think that Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Conor McGregor was not a boring fight and it gets three stars, but if you want to see some epic fights, it’s better to check our ranking of the best boxing fights of the year 2017.

The undefeated former world champion in five different weight classes Floyd Mayweather Jr (40 years old and eleven years older than the Ufc fighter Conor McGregor) entered this fight with a perfect boxing record of 49-0-0 (26 knockouts) and he was ranked as theNo.1 boxing welterweight (147 lbs, 66.7 kg) and No.1 pound for pound in the world until his last fight against Andre Berto (September 12, 2015, Mayweather vs Berto). Before this bout ‘Money’ had beat Manny Pacquiao in 2015 (=Mayweather vs Pacquiao) and twice Marcos Maidana in 2014: the first fight was very close, Floyd won just by majority decision (=Mayweather vs Maidana I) while he beat the Argentinian via unanimous decision in their rematch (=Mayweather vs Maidana II). In 2013 he had also defeated Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez (=Mayweather vs Alvarez). If ‘Pretty Boy’ beats Conor McGregor, he will break Rocky Marciano’s unbeaten record of 49-0 but a lot of boxing fans and Rocky Marciano Jr, son of the boxing legend, think that a fight with a boxing debutant like Conor McGregor should not be counted.
His opponent, the former Ufc Fw and current Lw champion Conor McGregor is at his professional boxing debut but he has a mma record of 21-3-0 (90% finishing rate) and he is the No.1 mma lightweight (155 lbs, 70 kg) and No.7 P4P. After beating Jose Aldo via knockout in 2015 in just 13 seconds (4-stars fight Aldo vs McGregor), ‘The Notorius’ has faced Nate Diaz twice in 2016 losing the first bout via submission (4-stars fight, McGregor vs Diaz I) and winning the second one (=Diaz vs McGregor II). In his last bout he moved up in weight class to the lightweight division winning over the former Ufc Lw champion Eddie Alvarez by technical knockout (=Alvarez vs McGregor). Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Conor McGregor is valid for the vacant WBC Money belt, special belt consisting of 1.5 kg of 24 KT gold, 3.360 diamonds, 600 sapphires and 160 emeralds.
If you want to know more about the two fighters we have analyzed some numbers, records and statistics about Mayweather vs McGregor and we have also collected the most important predictions on the mega-fight released by the most important boxers and Ufc champs like Mike Tyson, Oscar De La Hoya, Tyson Fury, Anderson ‘The Spyder’ Silva, Stipe Miocic and many others.
Before rating the fight McGregor vs Mayweather, here are some words said by ‘Money’ Mayweather during Wednesday’s final press conference in Las Vegas: “Competing against the best, that’s what it’s about […] Pacquiao got bombs, Canelo got bombs, Shane Mosely had bombs, and all of those guys are going into the Hall of Fame, but one thing about me, I’ve got a grinning chin. The same way you give it, you have to be able to take it. Remember this […] Conor McGregor can still have a hell of a career,” Floyd added. “He’s a hell of a fighter, a hell of a fighter, he’s a standup guy, he’s a tough competitor, it’s not going to be an easy fight. It’s going to be blood, sweat, and tears […] I’ve been hearing plenty of times, guys say, ‘I’m going to go to the body on Mayweather, I’m going to hit him with the right hand, I’m going to hit him with the left hook, after 21 years I’ve been hit with everything, and I’m still right here […] last I checked, no one is walking me down, it’s called having smarts. It’s called having an IQ, it’s called having patience.” And this is what Conor McGregor said:“I will break this old man…I don’t see him lasting two rounds, I feel I’ll have the decision to end it inside one […] Eight-ounce gloves, he made a big, big error in my opinion,” McGregor added. “He messed up with them eight-ounce gloves. It was amusing and all that, but I’m very, very happy for eight. We usually fight in four, we’re going to fight in eight. Keep your hands up, keep your hands down, I don’t care. I’m going to break through whatever is in front of me […] I’m gonna f*ck this boy up, make no mistake. And when it’s all said and done, I’m gonna feel a little bit sad. Because you all should have kept your mouths shut. You should have left me over in that other game where I’m from, that more ruthless game where we bounce heads off the canvas and drill them into the floor. You should have left me where I was because this man is not on my level, he’s not even a quarter of the man I am […] The fight business is the fight business, I can go into any rule sets, that’s what a true material artist can do. I am truly, truly skilled in many forms of fighting. After I get a victory Saturday night, I will most certainly look to compete in both sports […] I certianly know I’m going to win…”. 1. not to take anything away from mcgregor but it really wasnt competitive the announcers seemed to want to make you think it was, mayweather didnt even fight the first 3 rounds and still won 1 of them by me, i think 2 judges had him winning 2 of them without even really fighting, the rest was a whitewash, and mcgregor can say what he wants but he was 10 seconds from being knocked out cold, was impressed that mayweather actually came forward like he said he would, but i never saw anything that made me think mcgregor had a chance from the first bell. and im not a mayweather fan but a boxing fan, mcgregor kept saying he was composed its not about composed its about boxing skill and mcgregor didnt show me much of it, fighting yes, boxing no.

    • I agree. He looked pretty bad in there, as expected. Floyd not carrying that much power at this weight and having to come forward dragged this fight out longer than expected, but this type of ending was inevitable. Easy money for Money Mayweather. Here’s hoping that this is the one and only ridiculous matchup we have to witness in boxing.

  2. Heh. What can you say about this silliness? It looked scripted at least on Floyd’s part. Take a few rounds off and let Connor throw his pitty-pat arm punches. Then step it up little by little through the middle rounds. Put in about 5 minutes’ worth of easy work at the end and finish the amateur off. Every WWE wrestling fight must tell a story…

As a side note, the Showtime announcers kept up the “Wow!” and “Look at that!” for an embarrassingly long time.

    • yeah, Floyd looked like in a training match….easy win at the end. He even allowed Conor to hit him, because there was no power left….I mean, when did you ever see Floyd running in punches like that? He knew exactly what he was doing. But respect to Conor…he’s has boxing skills

      • Yes, respect to Conor, who took this seriously (and had to). With more power on his shots, he’d be a force in boxing. At this late date, I don’t think his unorthodox style can lend itself to sitting down on his shots. He’s a bit like the journeyman and fan-favorite Emanuel Augustus, who also combined angles, fluidity and high punch rate but just didn’t have enough power.

        • Yeah, If I my took my expectations ( crappy) and see the fight I am indeed seeing a good fight. But did you know MCG earned 125M and MG earned 400M?

          • Wow, Matt, I didn’t know Floyd had walked away with so much. This will keep him in new tennis shoes!

I tuned out a lot of the hype, but you know how it is in our day and age: you can’t avoid it altogether. I kept seeing these very serious discussions featuring boxing legends like Sugar Ray Leonard. Seated in studios around desks, they were shown treating the matchup as if it required deep, thoughtful analysis!

This was a kind of hype that, for me, anyway, made the spectacle seem even more of an illusion.

Btw, who are you picking in Canelo-GGG? I think G will land the bigger blows, yet the judges may give a little Las Vegas gift decision to Canelo if Gennady can’t stop him. Call me a cynic!

  3. I’m glad we’re through with this circus. I didn’t watch the fight live and that’s a first for me in ten years for a Mayweather fight. Yes, I am a big Mayweather (the fighter) fan, clearly the best fighter of our era (2000+). But what happened in Las Vegas yesterday had barely to do with boxing. Let’s move on, go back to boxing and try to forget about this.

    • I think the fight is averagely rated here because on here, people are knowledgeable about boxing. Don’t put MMA in my cereals!

  4. I’m not sure why all the poo poo on this fight. I saw it as a success personally. Exhibition/mythical fights have always taken place throughout history. Nobody’s a die-hard like me. But I enjoyed the contest. I think it’s a good thing wen something like this captures the public’s imagination & can literally give people joy. Life is hard & if a fighter or fight makes people happy….I’m w/ it. It’s not like this was Tiger Woods or somebody. It was another fighter. I also thought
Mc-Conor did rather well. (all things considered.) He moved better than I believed he could…evaded shots better than he ever showed poss…& kept range well. The length of his arms seemed unreal. I have a 75-76 in reach & I’m the same height….Either Floyd isn’t really 5’8″ or Mc-Conor is bigger than 5’9. He looked very big next to Floyd. But To me it was a win win win across the board. No one was unhappy…..well, except here of course. lol

  5. What a shame for a guy that think how good he is since he wasn’t able to conquer this fight till reaching the round 10. On the first 3 to 4 rounds a guy with very low boxing skills was able to take the lead making “money” looks miserable. It is very good for him to be in this kind of “pseudo” retirement since he isn’t anymore a good contestant. He can take only this kind of clown-business fight to skimming the money of naïve people who don’t appreciate this sport. As predicted Conor stamina was not enough to help him on the last rounds were his action notably diminished. It was the first time for me to watch Floyd going to the offensive and attack for such as a running guy. May be because just his proud was very affected. From now on Floyd stay at home please.

  6. wasn’t actually a fight
    more like a circus
    sense some fixing even
Mayweather doing literally nothing for 4-5 rounds to make mcgregor look good with his uppercut, changing stances and those couple of jabs he landed
Mayweather with no footwork, surprisingly low jabs for a boxer of that caliber, even he isn’t in his prime … and heads down charging forward, not even throwing punches .. I mean what in the hell … a beginner boxer could have landed better shots than mcgregor did if mayweather did nothing like that
and even the punches mcgregor landed … come one … he was hyped up as this invincible, better than Bruce Lee type of technician, and power so that just a jab could knock Mayweather out -_-

there are far better boxers (far far better) in the UFC who could have fought better than this with Floyd if given the opportunity, but none of the have the foul mouth mcgregor does
