Review: 2011-08-05, pleasant fight between Leonardo Zappavigna (25-1-0) and Ameth Diaz (29-10-0). Diaz, with ten defeats in his professional career, was not the favorite but in the second round he surprised everybody knocking down Zappavigna, but the Australian seemed to recover so quickly that he dominated the third round, instead Ameth Diaz came back and won the match. Finally Diaz won a world title eliminator (IBF lightweight), after losing three title eliminator since 2007, while for Zappavigna this is his second consecutive defeats. Watch the video!
Review: 2009-02-28, the first fight between Juan Manuel Marquez and Juan Diaz was the “fight of the year” of 2009. Marquez (49-4-1) came from the important victory versus Joel Casamayor and tried to win a world title in the third category of weight since he had won a world title in the featherweight and super featherweight divisions. Diaz (34-1-0) had already won the WBO and WBA lightweight titles in 2008 but he had lost them in the fight versus Nate Campbell who had left them vacant because he tried to climb the welterweight division. Both boxers in 2008 had suffered their first defeat, Juan Diaz (33-1-0) against Nate Campbell, while Katsidis (23-1-0) lost versus Joel Casamayor (probably the best boxing fight of 2008). So for both this match was really important, the fight had a very high pace (more than 1600 punches thrown in 12 rounds) and it was very balanced; in fact Juan Diaz defeated Michael Katsidis by split decision.
