Review: the first fight between Castillejo and Sturm was one of the greatest and surprising fights of 2006. Felix Sturm defended his WBA World middleweight title (won against Maselino Masoe) for the first time and had lost only once in his career (against Oscar De La Hoya); Javier Castillejo seemed to be an easy opponent as it was 39 years old, 11 more than Sturm, and had already suffered 6 defeats (but also 60 victories). Review: Jermain Taylor vs Ronald Wright was one of the best boxing fights of 2006. Taylor was undefeated (25-0-0) and was the WBC and WBO champion of the middleweight division, titles that he had won against Bernard Hopkins (one of the best fights of 2005), instead Ronald “Winky” Wright had already lost 3 times (the last time against Fernando Vargas in 1999) but he could rely on his experience of 50 victories. Pacquiao defended for the second time his WBC International super featherweight title and would not disappoint his people, but Larios, even if this was the first match in the super featherweight division, like all Mexicans sold his life dearly: very nice fight with two knockdwons, five stars! Review: John Duddy vs Luis Ramon Campas was valid for the IBA middleweight title and was one of the best fights of 2006. “Yori Boy” Campas had an incredible record of 96 fights, including 88 victories and 8 defeats, and in his long career had already faced fighters like Oscar De La Hoya, Fernando Vargas, Raul Marquez and Felix Trinidad, while his opponent John Duddy, younger than 8 year, had only 17 professional fighting, but all won… Watch the video!
Review: the fight between Oscar De La Hoya and Ricardo Mayorga was one of the most spectacular of 2006 (three knockdowns). De La Hoya was not fighting for nearly two years, since losing against Bernard Hopkins in 2004, while Mayorga came from the victory versus Michele Piccirillo with which he won the vacant WBC light middleweight title. Review: the third and final fight between Manny Pacquiao and Erik Morales lasted just 3 rounds, but it was equally spectacular. Pacquiao, after winning the second match against Morales had also defended his WBC International super featherweight title against Oscar Larios, while Morales had not faced anyone in the meantime. But Erik “El Terrible” Morales was no longer as dangerous as during their first fight…fast finish and three knockdowns. Review: 2011-04-16, if Ortiz and Berto had fought throughout the fight as the first six rounds, this match could be a candidate for Fight of the Year 2011 since both fighters went to the canvas and the fight was very exciting, but the second part of the bout is not as spectacular as the first one: four stars. The undefeated Andre Berto entered the fight with a record of 27-0-0 while Victor Ortiz had a record of 28-2-2. Review: 2011-04-16, very exciting fight with both fighters went to the canvas and four breathtaking rounds (from fifth to eighth period): Orlando Salido vs Juan Manuel Lopez is definitely one of the greatest boxing fights of 2011, four stars. The undefeated “Juanma” Lopez entered the fight with a record of 30-0-0 while Orlando Salido had a record of 34-11-2. Lopez vs Salido is valid for the WBO featherweight title (Lopez’s third defense).
