On March 2, 2001, Pongsaklek Wonjongkam was not even 23 years old, but he had a record of 38 wins and 2 defeats, while Tunacao had only 12 fights, but with no loss. Review: 2001-03-24, Oscar De La Hoya vs Arturo Gatti, for us, was the fight of the year of 2001. De La Hoya, nine months before, had lost against Shane Mosley and absolutely needed a win to move closer to a world title, Gatti, instead, did not suffer any loss in the two previous years.
