Review: 2011-11-05, good fight dominated by Lucian Bute that defeated Glen Johnson by unanimous decision. The undefeated Lucian Bute (29-0-0) entered as the No.1 super middleweight in the world while Glen Johnson (51-15-2) entered as the No.5. Bute vs Johnson was valid for the IBF super middleweight title. Watch the video!
Review: 2011-11-05, nice knockout of George Groves that defeated Paul Smith in the second round: three stars. The undefeated George Groves (13-0-0) entered as the No.27 super middleweight in the world while Paul Smith (31-2-0) entered as the No.33. Groves vs Smith is valid for the BBBofC British and Commonwealth super middleweight titles (undercard of Ricky Burns vs Michael Katsidis). Watch the video!
Review: 2011-11-05, nice and balanced fight between Ricky Burns and Michael Katsidis (it is very close to our 4 stars). “Rickster” Burns defeated Katsidis by unanimous decision but five and six points points of difference between the two (in the final score) are too many. Ricky Burns (32-2-0) entered as the No.12 lightweight in the world while Michael “The Great” Katsidis (28-4-0) entered as the No.13. Burns vs Katsidis was valid for the interim WBO lightweight title. Review: 2011-11-04, good and tough fight between Suriyan Sor Rungvisai and Nobuo Nashiro: three stars. Suriyan defeated Nashiro by unanimous decision defending for the first time his WBC super flyweight title. Suriyan Sor Rungvisai (19-4-1) entered as the No.1 super flyweight in the world while Nobuo Nashiro (15-3-1) entered as the No.12. Watch the video!
Review: 2003-12-13, Cory Spinks vs Ricardo Mayorga was one of the best boxing fights of 2003. Spinks was the champion of the IBF welterweight title (won in the previous fight against Michele Piccirillo) while Mayorga held the WBA and the WBC welterweight titles (won against Vernon Forrest). Mayorga was penalized two points, but the fight was very exciting! Watch the video!
Review: 2003-03-08, the fight between Corrie Sanders and Wladimir Klitschko lasts less than five minutes but these two rounds are very spectacular. The younger Klitschko had already lost once (against Ross Puritty in 1998) but in this fight he was the favorite since he was defending his WBO heavyweight title, for the sixth time, and Sanders did not seem an opponent too hard to beat, as the most dangerous boxer he faced was Hasim Rahman, with which he had lost. With four knockdowns in just four minutes, Corrie Sanders vs Wladimir Klitschko, gets deservedly our four stars (after this match also Vitali Klitschko fights against Sanders). Watch the video!
Review: 2003-06-07, the third and final fight between Arturo Gatti and Micky Ward was one of the best boxing fights of 2003 (and was named Ring Magazine fight of the year 2003). Gatti had lost the first fight against Ward, but then he won the rematch: two of the most spectacular fights of 2002. In this third chapter Arturo Gatti broke his right hand during the fourth round, but even with a single hand he managed to finish the fight; this will be also the last fight of Micky Ward. Review: 2003-06-28, Joe Calzaghe vs Byron Mitchell gets our five stars mainly for the second round that could be appointed “round of the year”. For the thirteenth time Calzaghe defended his WBO super middleweight title against American Byron Mitchell, who had been world champion for the WBA in previous years. Mitchell is the first boxer who knockdown the “Italian Dragon” Calzaghe (he will go down also with Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr a few years later), but Calzaghe has always raised…. Review: 2003-01-25, Ricardo Mayorga vs Vernon Forrest 1 was one of the most spectacularboxing fights of 2003. Mayorga was the champion for the WBA welterweight division, but the boxer to beat was Forrest, as he was undefeated in 35 fights and he came with two wins against Shane Mosley. But in boxing, and especially against a fighter like Ricardo “El Matador” Mayorga, the result is never predictable…We are only sure that the first fight Forrest vs Mayorga, ended by TKO in the third round, was one of the most exciting of 2003 (after six months it was held the second fight and Mayorga won by majority decision). Review: 2003-11-15, the first fight between Manny Pacquiao and Marco Antonio Barrera has been (for us) the fight of the year of 2003 (while for Ring Magazine was Arturo Gatti vs Micky Ward 3). For Manny Pacquiao was the second fight in the featherweight division, he had won the first one against Serikzhan Yeshmagambetov (2003-03-15), while Barrera was fighting in this category since 2001 when he defeated Naseem Hamed. Manny Pacquiao vs Marco Antonio Barrera 1 was not valid for any world title but it was certainly one of the greatest boxing fights ever (instead their second fight, in 2007, was much less exciting).
