Review: 7th August 2004, Acelino “Popo” Freitas defended his WBO lightweight title (won against Artur Grigorian a few months earlier) versus Diego “Chico” Corrales. Freitas was undefeated in 35 fights and was a very dangerous boxer for his speed, but Corrales was not an easy opponent, since he had suffered just two defeats against boxers like Floyd Mayweather Jr and Joel Casamayor (then Corrales won the rematch with Casamayor). Review: Miguel Angel Cotto vs Kelson Pinto was a battle between undefeated since both boxers had a perfect record: 20-0-0 for Cotto, 21-0-0 for Pinto. Miguel Cotto was the favorite, since he had already won against strong opponents, but Pinto was a tough and not easy boxer for his height (9 cm more than Cotto) and his heavy punches (19 Ko on 21 wins!). Review: Felix Trinidad vs Ricardo Mayorga has been one of the most spectacular fights of 2004. Trinidad was not fighting for over two years and in 2001 suffered its first defeat against Bernard Hopkins, while Mayorga, in 2004, had already fought once defeating the modest Eric Mitchell (first fight of Mayorga in the middleweight division). It is interesting to see the fight between Trinidad and Mayorga also because they have a completely different style of fighting, but in this case the technique will win. Watch the video!
Review: very good fight and amazing Ko between Kengo Shimizu and Tsutomu Takahagi during the kick-boxing event RISE 74 (heavyweight title elimination match). Takahagi starts strong with series of heavy punches that could end the fight at the first round, but we are in Japan, the homecountry of kamikaze… Watch the video!
The most interesting boxing’s event of the week it focuses on the fight between Yuriorkis Gamboa vs Jorge Solis, valid for the WBA and IBF featherweight titles. The ranking of the featherweight division is dominated by Juan Manuel Lopez, but if Gamboa wants to fight against “Juanma”, is forced to win versus the experienced and solid boxer Jorge “Coloradito” Solis, who has only two defeats (one with Manny Pacquiao). On the same evening (broadcasted by Hbo), there will be two more fighting of particular interest among four undefeated boxers: Jorge Diaz vs Teon Kennedy (valid for the USBA super bantamweight title) and Miguel Angel Garcia vs Matt Remillard (valid for

Review: 2003-12-13, Cory Spinks vs Ricardo Mayorga was one of the best boxing fights of 2003. Spinks was the champion of the IBF welterweight title (won in the previous fight against Michele Piccirillo) while Mayorga held the WBA and the WBC welterweight titles (won against Vernon Forrest). Mayorga was penalized two points, but the fight was very exciting! Watch the video!
Review: 2003-03-08, the fight between Corrie Sanders and Wladimir Klitschko lasts less than five minutes but these two rounds are very spectacular. The younger Klitschko had already lost once (against Ross Puritty in 1998) but in this fight he was the favorite since he was defending his WBO heavyweight title, for the sixth time, and Sanders did not seem an opponent too hard to beat, as the most dangerous boxer he faced was Hasim Rahman, with which he had lost. With four knockdowns in just four minutes, Corrie Sanders vs Wladimir Klitschko, gets deservedly our four stars (after this match also Vitali Klitschko fights against Sanders). Watch the video!
Review: 2003-06-07, the third and final fight between Arturo Gatti and Micky Ward was one of the best boxing fights of 2003 (and was named Ring Magazine fight of the year 2003). Gatti had lost the first fight against Ward, but then he won the rematch: two of the most spectacular fights of 2002. In this third chapter Arturo Gatti broke his right hand during the fourth round, but even with a single hand he managed to finish the fight; this will be also the last fight of Micky Ward. Review: 2003-06-28, Joe Calzaghe vs Byron Mitchell gets our five stars mainly for the second round that could be appointed “round of the year”. For the thirteenth time Calzaghe defended his WBO super middleweight title against American Byron Mitchell, who had been world champion for the WBA in previous years. Mitchell is the first boxer who knockdown the “Italian Dragon” Calzaghe (he will go down also with Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr a few years later), but Calzaghe has always raised….
